Home > News & Events > Other Announcements > Wild at Heart: Understanding Parrot Behavior Wild at Heart: Understanding Parrot Behavior Anyone who has ever shared their home with a parrot companion knows they can be a handful! Undesirable and problem parrot behavior is the primary reason parrots are surrendered to rescues and sanctuaries. Even those people who have good relationships with their parrots may not fully understand how these wild creatures adapt (or do not adapt) to life in captivity. Gain rare insight and improve your understanding of the birds we care for through our knowledgeable speakers. When and Where? Saturday, May 31, 2003 9:00 a.m.1:00 p.m. Radisson Hotel South & Plaza Tower 7800 Normandale Boulevard Minneapolis, MN 55439 Featured Speakers Greg Glendell Greg Glendell is an avian behaviorist and founder of BirdsFirst, an education and lobbying group dedicated to promoting the welfare of birds in captivity. He is currently the UK's only full-time companion bird behavioral consultant, and advocates a "bird-centered" approach to developing a positive, fulfilling environment for captive parrots. Mike Schindlinger Mike Schindlinger is a Ph.D. candidate in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. Mike is one of the few researchers in the world studying parrot behavior in the wild, and will share some findings of over three years of living in the field with wild Amazon parrots. Through his field study, Mike has had the opportunity to observe the daily lives of wild parrots as they court, play, eat, roost, care for their young, and communicate with each other, and has created a unique compilation video and audio called Stalking the Wild Amazon: The Secret Lives of Wild Parrots. Registration $50.00 per person (includes refreshments). MAARS Volunteers receive a $10.00 discount.
