Looking Back on 2006, Forward to 2007 Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Supporters: As 2006 draws to a close and we at MAARS reflect on the year gone by and our work, I am struck by a strong sense of gratitude for the ability to be able to help so many animals in need. When so much of what happens around us is out of our control, it is an amazing gift to be able to come to The Landing, connect with the flock, and know we are making a difference. The difference we make is tangible when a previously cage-bound bird flies for the first time, or when a bird who lived alone puts his or her head down to be preened by another bird. The joy we feel at these moments is immeasurable, and it makes all the hard work — the cage cleaning, the fundraising, the late night calls, and emergency trips to the vet — worthwhile. Because MAARS spends approximately 75% of our revenue on direct bird care, you know your donations are making a difference, providing food, housing, toys, and veterinary care for one of the largest non-breeding flocks of birds in the United States. This holiday season, we ask that you remember the MAARS flock by making a tax-deductible donation or purchasing "Presents for Parrots" for the birds in the shelter.
