Birdie Banquet

Ingredients
5 c. organic mixed grains (brown rice, wheat berries, oat
groats, millet, quinoa, barley, etc.)
3 c. organic mixed beans (soy, chickpeas, adzuki, mung,
kidney, peas, lentils, etc.)
1 c. cooked organic orzo or couscous (or other pasta shapes
— try veggie flavored!)
2 Tbsp. grape seed oil
2 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
2 Tbsp. ground anise
12–15 cups filtered water
5 c. fresh or frozen organic mixed veggies (carrots, corn,
squash, yams, broccoli, green beans, kale, etc.)
1 c. fortified organic fruit and veggie juice or 4 Tbsp.
spirulina powder
1/4 c. organic cider vinegar
Contents of 1 capsule garlic and Lactobacillus acidophilus
supplement
1/4 c. bee pollen
1/2 c. organic raisins or other dried fruit, soaked in
warm water 20 minutes. (Optional)
1/2 c. raw organic sesame seeds or other nuts (Optional)
1 c. Harrison's bird food (Optional)
Any other favorite foods (Optional)
You may also alter spices for variety (curry, chili, etc.).
Be very careful of salt in spice blends! (Optional)
Directions
Bring water & oil to a boil in a large stockpot. Add
cinnamon, anise, and grains. Allow to boil again, then lower heat, stir,
cover, and simmer 1 hour or until all water is absorbed.
Put beans in large bowl and add 2 cups water. Cover loosely
with plastic wrap and microwave 15–30 minutes until tender on 1/2 power.
Do not overcook!
Cut or food process veggies into bite-size pieces.
In large pot, bowl, or tub mix grains, beans, and veggies.
Add vinegar, juice, or spirulina, garlic supplement, and optional ingredients.
Mix well.
Scoop enough mixture for 2 days into plastic bags, flatten,
seal, and freeze
Defrost in refrigerator overnight and warm in microwave
10–20 seconds. Stir with a finger to make sure there are no hot spots
and serve!
Makes enough for 30 delicious, nutritious meals for 6
small parrots. |
